Loddon Local History Group

The Loddon Local History Group was formed in June 2001 to try and share the Before Your Time historical material with a wider local audience. At present a 'hard core' of about thirty people from Loddon and the surrounding villages meet every third Wednesday of the month usually in the Hollies back room, Loddon, 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

We are joined on occasions by up to twenty others with a special interest in the topic under discussion. We have, amongst other things, heard a very enthusiastic 'Documentary Historian' telling us how to discover the history of old houses and have visited Hales Hall, our local Tudor Manor House; Andy Milner gave a talk on "Alfric Modercope - our Noble Hero"; Eddie Mitchell, was a great success at the May meeting of the Loddon Local History Group. His stories of growing up in the village during the 1920s and 30s were much appreciated by our biggest turn out yet!

Anyone who is interested in our topic can join us, we provide a cup of tea and a biscuit too, and ask only for a donation of £2 to our funds. It is hoped that the ideas for future speakers and topics will come from our 'members' and that many more will come to share our passion. Email us at loddon.history@hotmail.co.uk for more details.
